The Real Reason Some Businesses Outlast the Founder
Your legacy is built in leaders, not dollars.
If you only measure dollars, you’ll only build a dollar-sized business. Who wants that?
I have found that when you start measuring leadership, both your own and your team’s you build something that outgrows you.
If you’re a solopreneur, then it’s up to you to invest in your personal growth.
If you have a team, give them a chance. Build them up. When people are empowered to lead, they become invested in what’s being built collectively. They take ownership. They bring heart. Together, the team creates sustainability and trust.
Are you brave enough to audit your business's leadership?
If so, ask yourself these questions:
Who’s Stepping Up (And Who Needs the Invite)
Every week, reflect:
Where did I step up?
Where did I shrink back?
Where did I empower someone else to lead?
Leadership isn’t about the spotlight or being in charge.
No one should bear the whole burden of the business.
Distribute not only tasks, but authority.
When someone has ownership responsibilities, they often outperform expectations.
Who’s Talking About You (When You’re Not in the Room)
When your team is truly part of the business, they represent it with pride.
This one’s tough, but worth the reflection:
What do people say about you behind your back?
Energy Check: Are We Leading From Alignment?
No one leads well from burnout.
Every week, ask:
Are we energized?
Are we proud of what we’re building?
Are we aligned?
Here’s what I know:
If you only measure dollars, you’ll build a dollar-driven culture.
If you measure leadership, you'll build a leader-driven culture.
Leadership will drive the dollars.
That’s what I want.
That’s what we are building.
That’s what sustains and multiplies wealth over time.
