The Nights I Almost Quit

There were nights when I stared at the ceiling, wondering if it was all worth it

One thing I know is that people love to talk about failure, but only after they’ve “made it.”

No one talks about it when they’re flat on their face.

But let’s back all the way up to the beginning.

I’ve had people I trust walk away. I’ve faced failed businesses. I’ve lost money. I have gone to zero.

I’ve entered partnerships that weren’t right for me then turned around to have them blast me online in a place we used to co-host. I never breathed a word to them about how that hurt. It wasn’t worth it, and still isn’t.

I’ve pivoted out of necessity more times than I care to admit.

Then I learned that it's all this hard stuff that really makes me who I was meant to be

Unfortunately, the hard doesn’t ever really go away.

It does lighten though.

And when you finally hit that milestone you clawed and crawled your way toward, the adrenaline rush feels like winning the whole world because you fought so, so hard for it.

To be exceptional, you have to be the exception. I know that’s me, and I know if you’re reading this, that it’s also you.

The beautiful thing about enduring these struggles is that better partnerships found me. They are the right partners who truly have my back (and my future) when it’s all too much.

If you’ve faced difficult times, just know, this is not about having an easy life

This is about being a creator and not a contributor. It is the hard path, but the right one, because a creator provides the opportunities that everyone else needs.

Spoiler alert: that’s the real secret. If your progress is measured by the people you impact, the money and success will follow. It’s inevitable. And this is why we push through the difficult times.

Knowing that every entrepreneur struggles doesn’t make it easier, but it does make it less lonely. And you haven’t failed if you haven’t quit.
